    Synopsis

In Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Ruhaan, a clever charlatan masquerading as a ghostbuster known as Rooh Baba (Kartik Aaryan), is thrust into a perilous situation when he confronts not one, but two malevolent entities within an eerie mansion. His wit and adaptability are put to the test as he unravels dark mysteries lurking within.

    Story

Maintaining the spooky-meets-comedy essence of the franchise, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 once again introduces an unsuspecting, light-hearted protagonist into a dilapidated mansion with a sinister legacy. The mansion, encumbered by an ominous history, yearns for restoration and resale, but the foreboding presence of Manjulika keeps potential buyers at bay. In a desperate attempt to rid themselves of the haunting, the beleaguered royal family seeks assistance from Rooh Baba. Eager for a quick profit, Rooh Baba accepts the task, only to find himself ensnared in a supernatural riddle as he encounters not one but two spectral entities, both asserting themselves as the infamous Manjulika.

Arriving on the heels of Stree 2’s resounding success, this horror-comedy makes a timely entry. Directed once again by Anees Bazmee, following his successful turn in 2022, the film diverges from Priyadarshan’s original psychological thriller approach (anchored by Akshay Kumar in 2007), leaning instead into the genre of ensemble comedy. Known for hits like Welcome and No Entry, Bazmee’s experience shines through as he injects humor with elements of fright. The shift from Priyadarshan’s more intense narrative style is an understandable evolution, designed to cater to fans of Bazmee’s signature comedic flavor.

A standout sequence featuring a beloved superstar ranks among the movie’s memorable highlights, adding to its charm and appeal. While Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 maintains audience engagement throughout, it does encounter moments where the humor dips, and some jokes miss their mark. The storyline gradually builds momentum, and though it takes time to fully unfold, the eventual twist in the climax is gratifying and executed with finesse. This unexpected turn delivers a sophisticated edge to a largely crowd-pleasing film.

The set design warrants commendation as well, with production values that elevate it beyond prior installments. Kartik Aaryan anchors the film, embodying the role of Ruhaan/Rooh Baba with panache and an endearing screen presence. This installment might showcase Kartik in a commanding role, but it’s the remarkable female leads who provide enduring support and energy to the franchise. Following in the footsteps of Tabu in the previous film, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 boasts the return of Vidya Balan and the addition of Madhuri Dixit, both of whom steal the spotlight with their commanding performances. Vidya’s reprisal of her iconic Manjulika is mesmerizing, her expressive gaze conveying emotions as haunting as they are compelling. Paired with Madhuri Dixit—who radiates charisma with her effervescent smile, dignified presence, and graceful dance moves—the two bring a captivating dichotomy of fire and ice to the screen.

Their mesmerizing dance-off during the classic “Ami Je Tomar” sequence is worth all the acclaim. Each actress brings her own flair: Madhuri showcases a predominantly Kathak-inspired style, while Vidya presents a fusion of Bharatanatyam and Odissi. It’s no small feat to match Madhuri’s dance prowess, but Vidya rises to the challenge with remarkable skill. While the song’s placement might feel slightly abrupt, the visual allure and compelling performances of both actresses more than compensate for it.

In supporting roles, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, and Ashwini Kalsekar showcase their ample talents, although their dialogue could have used more depth. Similarly, Triptii Dimri’s character could have benefited from further development to truly resonate with the audience.

While Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has its peaks and valleys, it encapsulates the essence of a festive family entertainer, delivering laughs, thrills, and nostalgia. As the climax is packed with unexpected twists, viewers are advised to keep its secrets, preserving the thrill for others venturing into this darkly comedic world.

    Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 Review Summary

    1. Story & Direction: A mix of horror, comedy, and family drama, the film explores secrets within a haunted palace, featuring Kartik Aaryan as a fake exorcist.
    2. Performances: Kartik Aaryan shines with his energetic performance, while Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit deliver strong but limited roles.
    3. Tone: A blend of comedy and horror, but uneven execution and forced humor detract from its potential.
    4. Music & Cinematography: Visually strong but occasionally distracting songs; the palace sets add gothic flair.
    5. Verdict: A decent family entertainer, but lacks the surprise and charm of its predecessors.
