In a candid discussion with India Today Digital, Dwivedi delved into the project’s evolution, shedding light on its meticulous development and Kapoor’s involvement.
Dwivedi disclosed that perfecting the script demanded an exhaustive three-year process. “The screenplay is now complete. It took us three years of relentless effort, rewriting the entire narrative thrice. Only now can I affirm that it has reached its final form,” he remarked.
When queried about the inspiration behind undertaking Naagin, Dwivedi elaborated on his vision: “This is an entirely original concept, bearing no ties to any prior interpretations. Indian folklore brims with imaginative potential, yet it is often undervalued. For instance, we marvel at the idea of a man transformed into Spider-Man by a spider bite, but we dismiss a woman metamorphosing into a serpent. With Naagin, we intend to upend these preconceptions and deliver a supernatural narrative unlike anything seen before.”
Discussing the casting choice, Dwivedi expressed unwavering confidence in Shraddha Kapoor as the embodiment of the film’s enigmatic protagonist. “From the outset, Shraddha was our unequivocal choice for Naagin. Her versatility and luminous screen presence make her unparalleled for this role. There’s an otherworldly quality about her that perfectly aligns with the character’s essence,” he said.
Elaborating on Kapoor’s response to the project, Dwivedi revealed, “She was immediately captivated by the concept. Shraddha was the first actor I approached, and she wholeheartedly embraced the idea. Her enthusiasm is palpable, and she’s eager to commence filming now that the script has been finalized. We’re currently working on logistics to begin production, likely starting next year.”
